The socialist provincial government of Åland has instructed the Traffic department to make it as difficult as possible for visitors to book or travel with the island ferries. The goal of this policy is to harm the native population and try to extinguish their possibility to make a living. It is no longer possible to purchase ferry tickets in the port. Ticket buyers should go to the Ålandstrafiken office in Mariehamn, with limited opening hours, or use the Ålandstrafiken website, which mostly doesn't function.
